Baseball: Shohei Ohtani Hits 4th Homer of Season in Angels' Win over Yankees

On Tuesday, Shohei Ohtani hit his fourth home run of the year, assisting the Los Angeles Angels in their 5-2 victory over the New York Yankees.

In the top of the first inning at Yankee Stadium, Ohtani, the designated hitter, hit a two-run home run off Clarke Schmidt after Taylor Ward doubled to start the game.

“The leadoff batter got on (the second) base, and I was hoping to at least advance him to third by giving my best swing,” said Ohtani following his first multi-point performance in seven games.

With his home run that came on the 100th anniversary of the original Yankee Stadium’s opening, Ohtani also made a lasting impression.

Before the Yankees scored two runs in the Yankees half of the fourth, Anthony Rendon singled in one run and Hunter Renfroe doubled in another off Schmidt for the Angels.

After reaching on catcher Kyle Higashioka’s interference in the fifth, Ohtani stole a base for the first time this season. On the catcher’s throwing error, Ohtani moved up to third and scored the game’s final run on a sacrifice fly.

The Chicago Cubs defeated the Oakland Athletics 4-0 for their third straight victory thanks to Seiya Suzuki, who went 2-for-2 with three walks, reached base five times, drove in a run, and drew three walks.
