Former No. 1 Women’s Tennis Player in World Accused of Second Doping Offense Ahead of French Open

Since October, Simona Halep has been on leave.
Simona Halep, who has been out of competition since October after testing positive for an illegal substance, is now being accused of using performance-enhancing drugs again.
The most recent charge, according to Reuters, stems from her athlete biological passport, which revealed issues with her profile.
“We acknowledge that the situation is already complicated because of today’s announcement. … Our goal to communicate with Ms. has not changed. Halep in an empathetic, efficient and timely manner,” The International Tennis Integrity Agency’s Nicole Sapstead, senior director for anti-doping, said in a statement.
“Up until the process is over, it would be inappropriate for us to comment on specifics, but we will keep in touch with the Sport Resolutions independent tribunal and Ms. representatives of Halep as soon as possible.”
Due to a positive roxadustat test at the U.S., Halep had previously been suspended. Her denial of knowingly taking it dates back to last year.
