In the opening round of the Millennium Estoril Open on Wednesday, defending champions Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral triumphed. The only all-Portuguese team in the ATP 250 draw defeated Romain Arneodo and Sam Weissborn 6-3, 7-6(3), advancing without facing a break point to the quarterfinals.
The following opponent for Borges/Cabral will be Robin Haase and Philipp Oswald, who defeated top seeds Hugo Nys and Andreas Mies 7-6(4), 6-1. In order to win, the Dutch/Austrian team saved both points against them.
On Wednesday, Diego Hidalgo and Cristian Rodriguez pulled off their own upset with a 7-6(5), 6-7(7), 10-6 victory over John Peers and Marcelo Melo, the second seeds.
Cressy/Olivetti Advance In Marrakech
A single doubles match at the Grand Prix Hassan II was completed on a wet Wednesday. Prior to the day’s action coming to a close, fifth seeds Maxime Cressy and Albano Olivetti defeated Petros Tsitsipas and Hendrix Jebens 6-3, 7-6(5) to advance to the quarterfinals.
When play was suspended in the only other doubles match of the day, fourth-seeded Frenchmen Jeremy Chardy and Fabrice Martin, Marcelo Demoliner, and Andrea Vavassori were up 6-4, 5-5.
