Kentucky Basketball Transfer Sahvir Wheeler Gets Washington Crystal Ball Projection

Sahvir Wheeler, a Kentucky basketball transfer, received a Crystal Ball projection to Washington on Sunday from 247Sports college basketball insider Travis Branham, the first prediction for one of the top players in this transfer cycle. Following his fourth collegiate season—his second with the Wildcats—Wheeler entered the portal last month.

Wheeler originally committed to Georgia as a four-star recruit, and he still has one year of eligibility left. He is a veteran point guard who plays for the portal. With more than 1,000 career points and 656 career assists, he has played in 106 career games. Before sustaining an ankle injury that prevented him from participating in the remainder of the regular season and the postseason, he started 14 of the 21 games he played in for Kentucky this year.

In 28.5 minutes per game, Wheeler averaged 7.7 points, 5.6 assists, and 2.3 rebounds.

In 2021–22, he was a second-team All–SEC selection and led the SEC with 6.9 assists per game. Wheeler was also selected as a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which is given to the best point guard in the country.

In his fifth season, he will be searching for his third school after spending two years at Georgia and two at Kentucky.

Wheeler’s tenure in Kentucky was troubled. Despite being a master decision-maker, the 5-foot-9, 180-pound guard struggled because he couldn’t develop into a reliable 3-point shooter. Kentucky turned to Cason Wallace running the point over Wheeler: When Wheeler played for the Wildcats in SEC games, Pivot Analysis found that the Wildcats were outscored by 8.39 points for every 100 possessions.

However, it’s challenging to ignore Wheeler’s flashes. Every time he entered the game, the lightning-fast point guard quickened the pace.
