Kyrie Irving is Trying to Recruit LeBron James to Dallas Mavericks

Shams Charania of The Athletic claims that LeBron James is being actively courted by Kyrie Irving to join the Dallas Mavericks. According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, Irving is urging the Mavs to sign James.

“A new twist has emerged in the LeBron James-Kyrie Irving reunion plot, as league sources have told Bleacher Report Irving wants the Dallas Mavericks to explore trading for LeBron James this offseason to create a Big 3 alongside himself and Luka Doncic,” Bleacher Report was Haynes’ publication.

James and Irving were teammates for three seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who won a championship in 2016.

The Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has expressed his desire to re-sign Irving, a veteran point guard who is an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

James is under contract with the Los Angeles Lakers through the 2019–2020 season (earning $46,698,737), and he has a player option worth $50,434,636 for the following season (2024–2025). As a result, James can’t enter the free agent market until after the 2019–2020 campaign. James would need to either negotiate a buyout from the Lakers or make a trade to the Mavericks to acquire him.

The Mavericks are now the clear favorites to sign James this offseason after these reports about a potential Irving-James reunion in Dallas started to circulate.
