Manchester United 'working On' a Second Surprising Transfer After Mason Mount

After securing Mason Mount for Erik ten Hag, Manchester United is now looking to add another superstar.

Both Mason Mount from Chelsea and Inter Milan winger Federico Dimarco have been targets of Manchester United’s repeated attempts to sign them this summer. The latter move may surprise some fans. The left-sided defender was instrumental in the Serie A giants’ run to the Champions League final, and he could now offer Erik ten Hag a reasonably priced alternative.

Due to the club’s ongoing takeover process, the Dutch manager is rumored to be frustrated that they can’t match Arsenal’s offer for Declan Rice. Due to financial issues, the Red Devils withdrew from negotiations to sign Tottenham star Harry Kane. Ten Hag is said to have a budget of £150 million before sales and needs to fill several key positions.

However, after Luke Shaw turned around his United career and now appears to have established himself as one of the best in the Premier League in his role, left-back was not considered to be one of those positions. United and Real Madrid allegedly spoke to Inter about Dimarco, according to The Independent.

The two are currently in the lead because they have shown the most interest in the player, who may be available for a fair price given Inter’s financial difficulties. Ten Hag thinks the Italian can fill a variety of roles as he seeks to increase the versatility and speed of his team for the upcoming season.

Kim Min-jae of Napoli was thought to be the preferred choice, but the South Korean has since decided to move to Bayern Munich instead, with the German club willing to activate his release clause. Axel Disasi and Jean-Clair Todibo have reportedly also been discussed, but if Dimarco is brought to Old Trafford, a familiar face may be returning to the center of defense instead.

Shaw performed admirably as a fill-in during the second half of the season when Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane were injured, possibly giving Ten Hag hope that he might move to centre-back in the long run if Dimarco is thought to be a better acquisition than either Disasi or Todibo.
