Phillies' Bryce Harper, Manager Rob Thomson Ejected After Benches Clear Against Rockies

The Philadelphia Phillies’ resentment is starting to surface.

The two-time MVP Bryce Harper and manager Rob Thomson were both dismissed from Sunday’s game as the defending National League champions were in danger of slipping back to.500.

Harper and Colorado Rockies reliever Jake Bird had a verbal exchange in the top of the seventh after Bryson Stott recorded the game’s final out. The outfielder then stormed out of the dugout incensed.

Initially being held back by Rockies catcher Elias Diaz, Harper was eventually removed from the melee by third base coach Danny Wathan after both benches had emptied.

Harper and the manager were removed from the game despite no punches being thrown.

The video clearly showed Bird yelling and celebrating after the last out, which Harper took offense to. Then, Bird made a gloved clapping motion to make fun of Harper.

Perhaps Harper was attempting to ignite his sputtering Phillies, but it didn’t work as the Phillies lost 4-0 and finished the season at 20-20.

Harper was recovering from Tommy John surgery at the start of the season, so he missed the action. In nine games prior to Sunday, he had a.361 average and a 1.050 OPS.
