Sadio Mane Transfer Decision Made After Man Utd Agreement and Bayern's Harry Kane Talks

Harry Kane and Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel met to discuss a sensational summer transfer, but any agreement will likely depend on what happens to Sadio Mane.

Mane, a former Liverpool forward, had looked like he was about to leave Bayern this summer but wouldn’t rule out a surprise comeback to the Premier League. After agreeing to a £35.1 million transfer from Liverpool to Munich last summer, the Senegalese star’s Bundesliga career has not gone as expected.

Mane has even been connected to a transfer to Manchester United this summer; the Red Devils are in need of bolstering their offensive line. It follows his explanation of how he had an arrangement in place to join United before deciding to relocate to Merseyside.

According to a new report from Sky Germany, Bayern is determined to sign Mane this summer despite Saudi Arabia’s interest. The player recently expressed his intention to stay in Bavaria, but no official discussions have yet occurred.

Mane was questioned about his future at Bayern last month by Senegalese broadcaster 2sTV in the wake of reports that they were interested in signing Kane. As quoted by German newspaper Bild, Mane said: “Yes, if all goes well, I will go back to Bayern, God willing.

“Bavaria presents a significant challenge, which I enjoy. To meet this challenge, I must make whatever effort is necessary… It happens that the most recent season was extremely complicated. It wasn’t a surprise because I was anticipating some complexity. This is entirely typical.”

Those remarks, though, might seem to contradict Bayern’s goals. Following their 3-0 Champions League loss at Man City, the 31-year-old is accused of hitting teammate Leroy Sane and has been suspended by the German champions for a Bundesliga match late in the season.

The ex-Reds forward received a stiff fine in addition to being barred from Bayern’s Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim at the Allianz Arena. With competition from players like Sane, Serge Gnabry, and Thomas Muller, Mane has found it difficult to establish himself as a regular in the team’s attack due to form and fitness issues.

Since losing Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona a year ago, Bayern has been actively pursuing a sensational deal to sign Tottenham striker and England captain Kane this summer. Kane would give the team the central attacking role it has been lacking.

In 269 appearances for Liverpool, Mane scored 120 goals and won six major awards. Jurgen Klopp’s team has had a difficult time adjusting to life without the forward, who was consistently excellent throughout his time at Anfield.

However, everything could have turned out completely differently. “I have to say, I was really close to going to Manchester United,” Last year, Mane explained his 2016 move to Liverpool in an interview with the Daily Telegraph. “The contract was there, with me. I had everything planned out and ready, but I changed my mind and decided that I wanted to travel to Liverpool.’

“I decided to support (Jurgen) Klopp’s plan after much persuasion. I can still clearly recall the first time Klopp called. We have a big project at Liverpool, and I want you to be a part of it, he said.’

“He then inquired as to the position I preferred after noticing that I played on the right side while at Southampton while previously playing on the left. He responded, “But (Philippe) Coutinho is on the left!” after I said I preferred the left.’ So I decided to play to the right, nevermind. Any position I could picture myself in.”
