Seattle's Logan Gilbert Has Perfect Game Thru 6 Vs Rangers

Logan Gilbert, a right-handed pitcher for the Seattle Mariners, has pitched six innings of perfect baseball against the Texas Rangers.

Right-hander Logan Gilbert of the Seattle Mariners is pitching a perfect game through six innings against the Texas Rangers.

On Monday night, Gilbert dominated one of the best offenses in baseball. During a stretch of the second, third, and fourth innings, Gilbert tied a franchise record by striking out seven batters in a row.

And his defense offered support. Julio Rodriguez made the second out of the fifth inning by catching Josh Jung’s long fly ball to center field. To end the fifth inning, Jarred Kelenic made a leaping catch of Jonah Heim’s foul ball down the left-field line against the wall.

To start the sixth inning, Kolten Wong made a nice backhanded grab to catch Ezequiel Duran on a grounder up the middle. Sandy Leon delivered a foul popout to Gilbert, who then struck out Leody Taveras looking.

Gilbert has thrown 72 pitches, striking out nine batters overall. With six starts under his belt, the 26-year-old was 1-1 with a 4.01 ERA.

The last pitcher to throw a perfect game in baseball was Felix Hernandez, a former ace for Seattle. Against Tampa Bay, it happened on August 15, 2012.
