Texas A&M Men's Tennis Will Host South Carolina, Today!

The Texas A&M men’s tennis team hosts South Carolina Thursday, April 13, at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The Aggies’ most recent game ended in a 4-3 loss to Ole Miss. After each team claimed a doubles court, the teams were tied, and the point would be decided on the second court.

Pierce Rollins/Kenner Taylor were just surpassed (7-6(4)) by Lukas Engelhardt/Isaac Stromberg of Ole Miss. Giulio Perego, Guido Marson, and Trey Hilderbrand each hit singles as part of A&M’s response, each taking three pitches in a row for strikes.

Ole Miss, however, regained control of the situation and went on to win the game and the final three singles pitches. Coach Steve Denton explained: “On Thursday night, a great tennis weekend gets underway. Given that South Carolina has been one of our main rivals in recent years, Coach Goffi does a fantastic job with his team.

All season long, they have remained in the top 10 and have been tied for second place in the nation. For us to triumph on Thursday night, we must perform admirably.” With a 12-2 advantage over the Gamecocks, the Maroon & White hold a commanding advantage in the all-time series.

The Aggies hold a perfect 5-0 record when playing at the Mitchell Tennis Center, whereas South Carolina gave Columbia the victory (6-1) in the teams’ most recent meeting. On Wednesday, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association published its most recent team, singles, and doubles rankings.

A&M, which currently holds position 24, has been among the top 25 for three weeks running. At number 56 on the singles chart, Noah Schachter leads Maroon & White, followed by Raphael Perot at number 64 and Rollins at number 110.

Trey Hilderbrand and Schachter, who are still ranked in the top 50, complete the top three and take the No. 43.
