UCLA Men's Basketball Signs Jan Vide

The UCLA men’s basketball program has received a signed grant-in-aid from Jan Vide, as announced on Monday by Mick Cronin, The Michael Price Family is the head men’s basketball coach at UCLA.

Last month in Kaunas, Lithuania, the 6-foot-6 guard Vide from Ljubljana, Slovenia, was recognized as the tournament’s MVP. At the Adidas Next Generation Tournament (ANGT), he had a point total of 19.3, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. He shot 52.9 percent from the field and 78.8 percent from the free throw line through eight games.

“Jan is a lead guard with great size, standing at 6-foot-6, and he has shown that he can handle the ball and excel in the pick and roll at a very high level,” Cronin said. “Having won numerous accolades in European competition, he has earned a lot of recognition and respect on the international basketball scene. Jan is incredibly talented and resilient. He is an admirable young man with a bright future. For us, he will be able to play several positions. He can undoubtedly both score for us and create for others. Jan’s decision to attend Westwood and become a Bruin has us all giddy with excitement.”

When his team won the Adidas Next Generation Tournament in May, Vide had a line of 19 points, seven rebounds, and six assists before being named MVP.

As a member of Slovenia at the 2022 U17 FIBA World Cup (in Malaga, Spain), Vide averaged 20.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game last year. He participated in the 2021 FIBA U16 Challengers competition two years ago, where he posted averages of 27.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. The FIBA U16 Challengers competition saw Slovenia post a 4-1 overall record.

Four other freshmen and one junior will be in Vide’s incoming class along with him. The Bruins acquired Lake Elsinore, California native Devin Williams., During the early signing period in November, Sebastian Mack from Las Vegas and Brandon Williams (not related) from New York signed contracts. 2022.
